Specialized sectors
Franchise in trade One of the sectors at the International Exhibition Forum “Trade World” will be dedicated to franchise. Here independent trading enterprises will have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with proposals from major franchisers in Russia. We open this new sector to meet the growing interest in this form of business that, despite its relative novelty, has already attracted lots of followers among Russian businessmen. There are already independent shops that have franchise agreements with Spar, “Perekryostok”, “Kopeyka”, “Pyaterochka”, “Econica”, “Monarch” and “1C” chains. And this is just the beginning. In a short time, we may catch up with the USA in the number of shops working under a franchise - though, according to statistics, the USA have one of the highest levels of franchise trade – about 40% of the overall trade sector. At least we may overcome Germany where 530 franchisers have granted licenses to 22,000 franchisees. The interest expressed by domestic entrepreneurs in franchising is well justified because this country is ruled by the law of natural selection in business, just like the rest of the world. According to statistics, only 23% of private enterprises survive the first 5 years of working on the market, whereas only 18% are fortunate enough to stay in business for more than 10 years. The main reason for bankruptcy is discrepancy between business concepts and market realities. However, according to the same statistics, only 8% and 10% of enterprises working under franchise declare their bankruptcy after the first 5 and 10 years in operation, respectively.
Franchising is a form of business management when a company (franchiser) grants another company (franchisee) the right to manufacture and sell products or services under certain conditions and in a certain area. Usually, transfer of rights is done on a paid basis, with the franchisee paying the franchiser for the right to use its trademark and intellectual property. As a rule, payments consist of an initial amount and follow-up regular installments. Franchising always involves compliance with definite standards, described in such a manner that they can be reproduced. If it appears to be impossible to describe or reproduce them, we must be dealing with either fraud or incompetence.
The franchise sector of the International Exhibition Forum “Trade World” intends to show the advantages of working under a franchise network, as well as reveal the problems a retailer may face when obtaining a license.
Conceptual shop Technologies allowing to start up and efficiently run a trading enterprise were always a matter of concern for their managers. Management, efficient use of trading areas, procurement policy, security, methods of attracting customers – these are but a few of the problems facing every manager. The growingly competitive environment on the retail market due to emergence of new and expansion of existing trade chains and arrival of foreign operators forces independent shops to struggle for survival. Application of technologies aimed at enhancing efficiency of the enterprise by cutting down losses, optimizing the assortment of goods, using new approaches in sales area engineering, design and fitting requires time. We tried to help top managers of trading enterprises to save their time by presenting everything of interest in a single exhibition section. The project “Conceptual shop” will be introduced at the III International Exhibition Forum “Trade World”. A 500 square meter shop will be built here that will incorporate numerous functional and design solutions. You will be able to see here both virtual and implemented projects, new equipment and technologies, get to know interesting working techniques, goods stock. All of these individual and integrated solutions are aimed at raising the profitability of a trading enterprise and its “buoyancy” in the rough sea of Russian trade.
Private Label One of the sections of the exhibition forum in 2003 will be dedicated to manufacturers producing private labels for trading enterprises. Private label is a marketing tool to increase effectiveness of trading process, i.e. attract regular clients, form a unique quality goods stock, reduce consumer prices and raise profits. At present, products sold under private labels amount to 40 and 50 percent of the total volume of goods being sold in European and American retail shops, respectively. Surveys conducted among trading enterprises demonstrate an average annual increase of 5-10 percent in the sales of private labels. This exhibition section targets heads of retail trade enterprises, wholesale trade companies, as well as domestic and Western manufacturers who possess production capabilities with sufficient potential for production of goods under private labels for domestic and Western market.
