| |  |  | July 20, 2001 - July 22, 2001 On June 20-22, 2001 International Forum “Trade World” was conducted in the best Moscow exhibition grounds – “Gostiny Dvor” It was for the first time in Russia that an exhibition, two international conferences and a number of professional seminars dedicated to various types of trading enterprises were held together under the roof of Gostiny Dvor. At the opening ceremony of the forum, the floor was taken by V.I. Strzhalkovsky, Deputy Minister of RF Economic Development and Trade; V.V. Zhirinovsky, Deputy Chairman of RF State Duma; V.P. Shantsev, Moscow Vice-mayor; N.M. Reptchenko, Deputy Chairman of Moscow Region Administration
The Forum was attended by official delegations representing Committees on Trade from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Volgograd. In total, more than 100,000 people working in trade sector visited the forum that accommodated 136 exhibitors from all over Russia. Speakers at the conferences and seminars included heads of domestic chains, such as “Perekryostok”, “Kopeyka”, “Sedmoy Kontinent”, “Diksi”, “Megamart”, as well as managers of largest Russian manufacturing and shop fitting companies (“Rot Front”, “Kristall”, “Russky Proyekt” and others). Managers of trading companies from France, Great Britain, Germany and Turkey also made addresses during the Forum.
In the framework of the Forum, national professional awarding ceremonies “Golden Scales” and “Man of the Trade” were held. In view of the above, it may be said that the International Exhibition Forum “Trade World” became a prominent event in the business life of Moscow and Russian Federation.
The general sponsor of the Exhibition Forum “Trade World” was “Ramenka” Company (operator of “Ramstore” chain). Forum seminars were dedicated to problems of establishment and management of various enterprises, with participation from managers of largest retail chains in Russia: “Ramstore”, “Sedmoy Kontinent”, “Pyaterochka”, “Paterson” and others.
Participants were especially interested in the series of seminars on retail trade promotion in regions. Oleg Habibullin, General Director of Yekaterinburg “Kupets” retail trade chain analyzed in his report the changes in Yekaterinburg retail trade sector that happened over the past year. He referred to the lack of ready-for-use trading grounds as one of the most serious problems here.
Dmitry Zverev, Commercial Director of “Kristall Service” company, described specifics of retail trade in the North Western region and proclaimed St. Petersburg as the most attractive Russian city for investors. Sergey Romanov, Director of Kemerovo “Kora” retail trade chain, said that the low purchasing capacity of population in regions (save the Central region) has an adverse effect on development of supermarket chains.
The seminars also touched upon the issue of logistics management in retail trade. According to Adil Gadzhinsky, Consultant of the Logistics Coordinating Council, the main problem faced by retail tradesmen nowadays is absence of well-established logistic relations between participants in the physical distribution process that take years to create.
The seminars also tackled the issue of goods assortment formation and retail trading enterprise management technologies.
